Did you know there’s such a thing as the World Broomball Championships? A team from Ontario just won the men’s division championships this week.

The Minto Selects, hailing from the town of Minto, about two hours west of Toronto, took home the trophy at the tourney in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The event featured teams from Canada, the USA, and France.

In previous years, the tourney has featured teams from countries like Japan and Italy, but the pandemic meant that fewer leagues were operating around the world, and fewer still were willing to travel.

The Minto Selects went 6-0-2 in the tourney, outscoring their opposition 20-7. They beat Team USA 2-1 in the final after beating previously unbeaten Team Canada (the national team) in the semifinals.

The women’s division broomball gold went to Team Canada, which toppled the Mavericks from Canada 2-0 in the final.
